Scenic Rim Adventure Park

1/3/2015

Evan and Aleisha were our trip leaders for this trip to Scenic Rim Adventure Park. Everyone arrived early at Jimboomba Shell for an 8.30am departure. Nick was appointed sergeant of arms, Aleisha was appointed to take photos and Tiny was appointed trip reporter, but we all knew by now who would actually be doing it. We had 6 vehicles in total: 2 Land Cruisers, 1 Prado, 1 Rodeo Ute, 1 Nissan Patrol and a new visitor who bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Taylah was devastated, she was expecting Lilly to arrive with Pete but unfortunately she had too much homework to do. Aleisha read the duty of care and we were all introduced to the new visitor, Wayne Munn, then we were off on our merry way half an hour early. We made good headway and arrived at the park about 9am, checked in and continued to our campsite. On our way to campsite 7 we came across some huts and an outdoor shelter and a couple of drop toilets. A little further up was the site we decided to camp at. There’re actually 14 sites to choose from at the park but we all decided site 7 was the best and the biggest, it also had a big fire pit for our night festivities. We had a little green tree snake come to visit while we were setting up but lucky for us it didn’t decide to come back. We all set up our camps then went for a little 4wd driving. We left around 11.30am, up Aleisha’s Place onto Tour Drive 4 then onto Tour Drive 5, up to a little log cabin and toilet with a view. Pete and Evan were the only two who decided to tackle Cottage Lane Hill and succeeded - it looked a bit scary but they did it with ease. Marcel, Tiny, Nick and Wayne declined and went back up the way we came down. We then proceeded to go up Valley Loop, which ended up being a dead end so all vehicles had to turn around and go back the other direction. We then proceeded to go down Ernie’s Decent, which is a down only hill and we then had two choices to make: go down Craig’s Pass or the Log Trail Road, which had a low clearance level of 2.150mm, needless to say now Evan knows how tall his land cruiser is! He had to take the little chicken track off to the side. We all got through that trail up back onto Craig’s Pass, onto Tour Drive 3 and turned right into Scenic Way, up onto Ridge Crossing then onto Main street. We all ended up on a track no one wanted to go down onto except Pete in his trusty Nissan Patrol. After assessing the track, which happened to be named Off-road Boss Way, he made his way down. It was a little scary to watch, as at one stage he was on 3 wheels, but he made it look so easy. So easy in fact we all wanted him to come back up and do it again. Well done Pete!!!
After that excitement we left there and headed back on Main Street, across Laura’s Crossing, back down Ridge Crossing onto Scenic Drive, left into Tour Drive 1, 2 and 3 and back to camp for happy hour. Unfortunately Nick had to leave us and wasn’t camping the night. Later that night we all found out that our new visitor Wayne use to be JoAnne Grimstone’s boss, who happens to be Tiny’s sister!!!! What a small world we live in. The next morning we only had a few more tracks to investigate, so we all had our breakfast and Marcel and Ellen decided to leave and go home early, which brought our convoy down to four. We headed down Scenic Drive and up Main Street, then up to Endeavour Way where we found a replica of the Endeavour in the shape of a boat, which happens to be a huge children’s playground maze. After exploring this monstrosity we headed back onto Bruce Lane and Jalen’s Way and our trip had ended. It was a fantastic weekend away and I’m sure there will be more trips out this way again in the near future.
