Imbil Weekend

22/3/2015

Arrived Friday Night at Island Reach Camping Resort, met up with Marcel & Ellen. Island Reach is on the Mary River it is a great place for camping, very safe for swimming, kyaking, paddle boarding. There are toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, the amenities are very clean and tidy. The Penny Farthing trip started on Saturday morning with the arrival of Eddie & Laurraine and our visitors Jo & Andrew. We headed off from Imbil along Imbil Booloo Road, towards Kenilworth. We then turned off the bitumen into the forestry, climbing into the hills, stopping at several locations to take in the view. Later we turned onto another track, it was looking very unused, we checked if we were on the correct track, yes we were! So off we went, as we turned a corner we saw we had a bit of clearing to do, with fallen trees across the road, that took a few minutes, Thankyou guys! Off we went again, around the next corner, more fallen trees, smaller than the first lot! We headed into Charlie Moreland for a break, checked out the water etc. there is a lot of work going on there at the moment, looks like new amenities blocks being built, and trees being planted. Then we headed off on the big loop that would bring us back to Charlie Moreland again, we ended doing it in the reverse direction to the original plan. There were a few challenges along the way, low range was required in
a few sections, as we went along a little further, we came across a turning which looked rather steep, we
asked the others to hang back while we checked it out, we realised once we had committed to this track we had to keep going, no turning back, as we got further up the the ruts got deeper, the rocks got bigger, the track narrow, John said it was definitely a double black, though lots of thudding and excellent wheel placement, our lil old Prado got us to the top, we advised the others the condition of this track, under the
conditions they decided to take the by-pass track. After that we made our way back to Charlie Moreland, where we had lunch. After lunch Marcel suggested we go for a drive to Booloomba Creek Camping Area, Ohh what a beautiful spot, this involved two water crossings, Yeah that cleaned under the car, then some rain on the way back cleaned the top of the car! Due to only two cars left on the Sunday Trip «Nissan Nemisis» will be postponed to another date in the future. All in all a great weekend, Thank you to Marcel, Ellen, Eddie, Laurraine, Jo and Andrew.
