Bunderberg - Easter

3/4/2015

We started off at 730 in the morning with 6 cars, meeting up with the seventh in Gympie. From there we started the bulk of the drive to Bunderberg with Tiny randomly springing us with fatigue management quizzes. As we got closer to Bunderberg we had the great debate of, is that a macadamia farm or what? When we finally got to Bunderberg, after many questions of ‘Are we there yet?’, we stopped for fuel and a much needed toilet break. After everyone was fuelled up, Evan had a smart idea to jump the gutter and managed to sever his brake light cable. After fixing it and copping flack from pretty much everyone, we were on our way to meet Gavin from Rum City Offroaders. From there he led us out to the property, another 45 minute drive and we finally hit the dirt and the property. A short drive through some little rivers and streams, and worries about water in camper trailers and beers being over shaken we made it to the camp site. Not seeing any rain on the drive spirits were high for a great weekend, but about 30 minutes into setting up a down pour dampened our spirits for a little bit. However this not lasting long, we were hopeful for a clear weekend. After setting up, coldies were cracked and drinks were had by some. Gavin decided to take some of us on a little drive around the property, giving us a taste of the excitement that was bound to be had over the coming weekend. During this drive we spotted a pair of “goat” twins, that were super cute! After a little 45 minute drive around the area we came back to find a nice camp fire waiting for us. Waking up the next day the Rum City guys had planned a nice day trip out, seeing Baffle Creek, Agnes Waters and 1770. However the day wasn’t a completely seamless day, the high tide at Baffle Creek beach not allowing us a nice drive up the beach. The high tide also affected the drive through to Agnes Waters, affecting the already flooded crossing that was way to high to attempt. So after turning around and back tracking a little, we took a different way to Agnes. When we arrived we did a little drive, looking at the beaches and also trying to find a pub that wasn’t to busy. After a pretty nice feed, we were taken to a very nice look out and got to appreciate that beautiful scenery. After seeking some fuel and much needed supplies we headed back to the property and got to relax with a few drinks around the fire, as it was ‘Happy Hour’. Sunday was the day we finally got to explore the property, finally got to have a crack at the harder aspects of what the property had to offer. The first real challenge that was faced was Hilux Hill, only Richard and Evan managed this hill of impossibilities. The rest of the day was filled with many challenges, especially for the Jeep. As the day turned out to be pretty hot, most of us were pretty excited to finally reach the “waterfall” for a much needed swim! However as we got there the sky’s opened up and it poured down almost the entire time until
we were about to get out and head back to the camp site, typical! Once back to the 26camp came a sudden realisation that a fantastic weekend was almost over, however that was pushed aside easily with some cold drinks. The final day, pack up day, was of course as always the best day of the whole trip! Once everyone was packed up and ready to make a start on the drive back to Brisbane. The total distance for the trip was 1047kms. It was a great trip over the long weekend. A great time was had by all involved and will definitely consider this trip next year! If you didn’t come or couldn’t make it you missed out on a fantastic weekend!!
