On Saturday the 14th we met up at the BP on the highway to get fuel and food. We left around about 9.30 to drive up to the Tewantin Ferry and, after the short trip across the river, we drove for around five minutes and ended up at the campsite. Set up camp and aired down for the beach run.
First stop was red canyon and yes it was red. Shortly after we arrived at Fresh Water Camping Area where Brent discovered the bread was back at camp. Shortly after we went down the Freshwater Track which was a pretty easy track to go down, followed by a drive through Rainbow Beach town down to the beach, ‘till we climbed one of the sand dunes and they are surprisingly steep.
After driving through the cutting we came upon the lighthouse, so we decided to go for a quick walk up to the top and enjoy the view - could see the slight outline of a turtle (which turned out to be a stingray), also saw a shark or two and a big group of bait fish. On the way down I decided to have a quick play on the rocks the little zook . Did alright but nothing compared to Richard and Brent as they were driving over the top of it - I was like I can fit down the side yeah, I did but my left hand rear spring decided it didn’t like my car anymore and fell out, so flexed it back up on the opposite side and popped it back in . At least we provided entertainment for people at the bottom .
After this we drove back down the beach which seemed to go forever. We got back and, after getting changed, we headed off to the pub for dinner. Great way to end the day - nothing beats not having to clean up after yourself . After dinner we left the pub, around 9 I reckon, headed backed to camp for more drinks after weather man, Richard, predicted no more rain, sure enough after 30 minutes we were under Brent’s annex as it was raining . Next thing you know it’s 11pm - where did all the time go?
After to going to bed it rained a bit more, I mainly know this because my tent decided to leak . After moving around I eventually found the good water proof spot so back to sleep till around 7am when breakfast was cooked or stolen by Rainbow Lorikeets, or even burnt . After packing up we decided to drive back up the beach, through Rainbow Beach to top up with fuel, pump up with air and a yummy lunch at the bakery . We went down the road and had a quick look at the Poverty Point, which seems like a nice campsite and has plenty of small track going off everywhere . After we explored we all went our ways home . All in all it was a great weekend .
