After the eventful delay we finally made it on the beach. The weather was a little overcast with some light showers but this didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit. If anything it worked to our advantage as it seemed to keep a lot of cars away and the beach wasn’t too busy.
Once again Bribie Island lived up to it’s reputation of conditions being unpredictable. The beach changes week to week and you never know what you are going to get. On this occasion even though we hit the beach at low tide the beach left to drive on was really soft which made for some fun driving! We drove up the beach until we reached the 4th lagoon and headed in to have a break, morning tea and a swim if you were willing to brave the cooler temps! Even the lagoons conditions were unlike anyone had seen before – what is usually a quite large lagoon had been filled in by sand and we were able to park when most of the lagoon usually was. None the less the kids still had fun playing in the water and some even braved the ocean.
We then headed back off up the island and decided to drive all the way up as far as you are allowed to drive. Once again the sand was really soft all the way which made for some fun driving. We drove all the way up to have a look at the forts and then back down to the exit for the inland track. This is where we stopped for lunch and a relax. More braved the ocean for a swim and the kids had fun building sand castles. We even got to watch a few cars attempt to exit the beach who clearly had no idea what they were doing and narrowly avoided becoming stuck.

Along the way back we headed into Poverty Creek campground and day area for the loo and look around. Once again the kids used this as an opportunity to grab another swim and as we were getting ready to head off from here we spotted a few kangaroos nearby that everyone decided to watch and investigate until the male decided to hop on and have a go. This prompted parents to then try and get their young kids to look away! Ahhhhh Mother Nature at it’s Best!
We were then back on the road again and heading towards White Patch. Once off the track we stopped and aired back up and some headed home. The rest of us headed to Banksia Beach to find a park and bbq’s to set up for an early dinner. We found a great spot and all relaxed and took the opportunity to get to know the visitors. The kids took the opportunity to go for ANOTHER swim and play on the park. As it started to get dark we packed up and all headed our separate ways home.
Bribie Island was another great trip run by Helen and I am sure we all look forward to doing it again later in the year. We might even make it a night run to make it a little different!
